Working with Custom Menus

Your website may use the Custom Menus feature.  Custom Menus allows you to easily:

  • Change the order of pages
  • Nest pages to create sub-pages
  • Display posts on multiple pages by creating category pages
  • Add posts, tag pages, and custom links to your navigation menu

Editing Your Custom Menu

You can access your Custom Menu by going to the Dashboard and clicking on AppearanceMenus

You will be brought to the Custom Menu page.  Due to the customization of your site, you may have one or more Custom Menus.

Adding Pages to your Custom Menu

1. Select Your Menu

Due to the customization of your site, you may have one or more Custom Menus. Select the one that you want to add your pages to.

2. Select your Page or Pages

Once you have created your new page using the Page Editor, adding it to your menu is as simple as checking the proper boxes for the pages you want and then clicking Add to Menu.

3. Add to Menu

When you cllick the Add to Menu button, the pages will drop into the Menu Structure at the bottom.

4. Change the Order of Menu Items and Create Sub-Menus

At any time, you can change the order and placement of menu items. Drag and drop the items up and down to change the order of menu items. Drag and drop the items left and right to create sub-menu items.

5. Save Menu

Be sure to click Save Menu each time you make any changes to your Custom Menu.

Adding Category Pages to Your Menu

All posts will appear on your main posts page, but you can also create category pages that only display posts that you’ve designated with a specific category.

Simply check the box of the categories for which you want to create a page, and click Add to Menu.

Adding Custom Links to your Custom Menu

Want a menu tab to link directly to another website? No problem! Type in the URL, the label name, and then Add to Menu.

Be sure to click Save Menu each time you make any changes to your Custom Menu

Changing Menu Item Titles

You can also change the label and the hover-over text of menu items independently from the page name itself. To edit a page or category title, click the down arrow to the right of the item.

Once expanded, you can customize the Navigation Label (this is what shows up on the navigation bar of the whole site) and the Title Attribute (this is the text that displays on the very top of the individual page).
